2008 FFL DRAFT PREDICTIONS
First Round
1st |
LaDainian Tomlinson, RB (SD): This will likely come down to Peter deciding between LT and Adrian Peterson, the two backs that most have rated at the top of the Draft Boards. It's likely that Peter won't look for Reggie Bush this early, but bet on a RB going off the board with this pick, whether Peter decides to keep the pick or not. |
2nd |
Tom Brady, QB (NE): This prediction is solely based on Vernon's admittance of his “Man-crush” on Brady. After Vernon took the title last season with the help from Brady's freakish statistical year, I can't see him pass up on an opportunity to add him to his roster again. Peterson would be a solid choice here, but Vernon is a bigger Brady fan. |
3rd |
Adrian Peterson, RB (MIN): With Vernon snagging Brady, it's almost a no-brainer for Derek to take AP at this point. Of course, if Vernon takes AP, it's likely that Derek takes Brady himself. Both Vernon and Derek seem to favor big-name QB's over RB's, but the top three should have these three off the board, regardless of the order. |
4th |
Brian Westbrook, RB (PHI): Sandra seems to like taking RB's early in the draft, and Westbrook had a productive season the past few years. He's a multi-dimensional back with receiving skills, so he's a lock to be taken within the first-round. Sandra has taken a RB in the first-round often, so it won't be a surprise to anyone this year. |
5th |
Joseph Addai, RB (IND): Manny sitting in the middle of the draft makes it difficult for him to explore options. The likely scenario is having him choose between Addai and Manning. In either case, a Colt is likely to be taken here, but don't bet on Manny dealing out of this pick, since he loves to trade on draft day. |
6th |
Steven Jackson, RB (STL): How sweet would Calvin feel taking Jackson away from the arms of an eagerly awaiting Mike, a die-hard Rams fan. If Calvin decides to spare Mike’s feelings, then he may consider Manning, but he usually passes on QB’s in the first round. Perhaps he’ll take a flier on either Willie Parker or Larry Johnson. |
7th |
Marion Barber, RB (DAL): How about this for a turnabout-fair-play? Jackson is stolen from Mike, so Mike returns die-hard Cowboys fan, Cal, the favor and takes Barber with this pick. Although I can see Jackson and Barber in switched spots, it's more fun to predict this way. Mike also likes QB's early, so maybe Manning here instead? |
8th |
Peyton Manning, RB (IND): I know James likes to look at RB's early, but Manning might be too tempting to pass up at this point. He didn't have a huge year in 2008, but when he gets hot, there's no one in the league that can pile it up like Manning. With the long rest he had this off-season, he should be fresh and primed for a big year. |
9th |
Frank Gore, RB (SF): This will be the year where heart-picks are making a difference. Cedric, a Chiefs and 49ers fan will have to decide between Gore & Larry Johnson here. However, that might not be as heartbreaking for Cedric this season. Although he has to choose between the two with this pick, it's not a worry for him because… |
Top
Second Round
10th |
Larry Johnson, RB (KC): Since he has back-to-back picks, he’ll be able to land both Gore and Johnson and continue to root for his favorite teams. Johnson maybe overlooked by several coaches this season, but he’s likely to play with a chip on his shoulders this year, which could be a good thing for a coach with Johnson on his roster. |
11th |
Clinton Portis, RB (WAS): After taking Manning with the first pick, James will now have to make sure that he lands at least one solid RB. Portis is probably the best of the available backs at this point, and he surely won’t be disappointed that he lands at least one former Miami Hurricane starter. |
12th |
Drew Brees, QB (NO): Knowing that he took a RB with his first pick, Mike will probably make sure that he gets a top-tier QB before it’s too late. Brees is the best QB available at this point, and it’s likely that he’ll continue to fire away passes in the Saints’ offense which Deuce McAllister still recovering from his injury. |
13th |
Tony Romo, QB (DAL): Calvin will be excited that he can land one of the two top Cowboys. He loses out on Barber, but lands Romo. It looks like Calvin can relax now and not worry too much about landing at least one of the three Cowboys (including T.O.) within the first four rounds of the draft. |
14th |
Marshawn Lynch, RB (BUF): If Manny doesn’t get too trade-happy and keeps this pick, Lynch would make sense. Lynch is likely to be one of the rare backs that does not have to worry about a committee being formed in his backfield. He had a solid rookie season and could develop into a top-5 back by next season. |
15th |
Randy Moss, WR, (NE): Although Sandra is a Raiders fan, which means they have to hate the Patriots with a passion, she is very logical in making her selections. Moss is the top-rated WR in most observers’ boards, so she will set the trend of WR’s being taken by making the first move. |
16th |
Carson Palmer, QB (CIN): With Chad Johnson now dedicated to playing this season, Palmer’s production just went up a notch. Palmer would team up with AP to form a nice, solid start to the draft for Derek. Derek is still new to the group, so it remains that he’s still the most difficult to figure out. |
17th |
Reggie Wayne, WR (IND): Vernon will make headlines by being the first-ever FFL coach in modern times to take no RB’s in the first two rounds. But, with Brady and Wayne on his roster, he’s probably locked up the best QB/WR combo possible. If Vernon decides to be more conventional, it’s between Willie Parker and Ronnie Brown. |
18th |
Terrell Owens, WR (DAL): Peter will explore the option of taking Reggie Bush here, but will become more sensible and take a look at Owens, Brown, Wayne, or Moss, depending on who’s available. When he sees that they’re all likely to come off the board, he’ll be choosing between Owens and Brown. Parker and Brandon Jacobs are possibilities. |
